Martin Kerrison graduated from the University of Northumbria: BA Hons Fine Art (Painting). He completed a PGCE course at Oxford in Art/ Design/German, and has combined a career as a senior school teacher in south/west London with furthering his development as an artist. Figurative painting, theatre-design, portraiture and landscape were initially areas of interest before the current catalogue of work emerged from 2009. His work features in private collections in the UK, Europe and Australia. Kerrison has undertaken private commissions of a variety of subjects and invitations are welcomed for consideration by the artist.

He recently completed an MA in History of Art at Birkbeck, University of London, passing with 'Distinction'. Areas of expertise include: Modern and Contemporary Painting; Scottish Figurative Art of the 1980's/90's; North European Realism; Postmodern Figurative Painting; English Caricature: Hogarth to Giles; The Rhetoric of Advertising; Smoking in Visual Culture; Early Royal Academy Exhibitions; "Raeburn's" Skating Minister; The Contemporary Sublime; Museums, Memory and National Identity; Memorialisation and 9/11; The Politics of Memorialisation: Stanley Spencer's Sandham Memorial Chapel: Then and Now.
