
Martin Kerrison: Artist
Martin Kerrison graduated from the University of Northumbria: BA Hons Fine Art (Painting). He completed a PGCE course at Oxford in Art/ Design/German, and combined a career as a senior school teacher in south/west London with furthering his development as an artist before relocating to North Yorkshire in 2021.
Figurative painting, theatre-design, portraiture and landscape were initially areas of interest before the current catalogue of work emerged from 2009. His work features in private collections in the UK, Europe, USA and Australia. Kerrison has undertaken private commissions of a variety of subjects and invitations are welcomed for consideration by the artist.
He completed an MA in History of Art at Birkbeck, University of London in 2014, passing with ‘Distinction’. Areas of expertise include: Modern and Contemporary Painting; Scottish Figurative Art of the 1980’s/90’s; North European Realism; Postmodern Figurative Painting; English Caricature: Hogarth to Giles; The Rhetoric of Advertising; Smoking in Visual Culture; Early Royal Academy Exhibitions; “Raeburn’s” Skating Minister; The Contemporary Sublime; Museums, Memory and National Identity; Memorialisation and 9/11; The Politics of Memorialisation: Stanley Spencer’s Sandham Memorial Chapel: Then and Now.
When not at the easel, Martin is usually found singing for a range of choral and chamber choirs. He is a bass/baritone, trained by Gareth Roberts and Robert Harre-Jones.
